Beginner Sewing Club for Kids / Wednesday - January-May 2023, 4:30-6:00
For kids age 8 and up (must be at least 8 when the semester starts). Begins the week of January 23. Ends the week of May 1.
BEGINNER STUDENTS: Each new student will begin the semester by learning how to thread and use a sewing machine. From there they will learn to sew straight lines, iron seams, cut patterns, use a seam allowance, sew straps, sew and line a tote, make boxed corners, install zippers and buttons, read a pattern, make a patchwork square, room decor, and so much more. We try to finish at least 7-9 projects each semester. Students will work at their own pace but we will cover a lot of ground and have a lot of fun!
Please make sure your student has good scissor skills including holding the scissors correctly, cutting straight lines, corners, curves, and shapes. They will struggle if they can't use scissors properly and they end up being limited and self conscience.
1 class per week for a total of 11 weeks (with the exception of holiday weeks and spring break weeks). Each class is 1.5 hours long. There is 1 make up class the week after the semester officially ends for students who missed a class.
SICKNESS POLICY: Please don't send your student if they have any symptoms of sickness. There is an included makeup class at the end of each semester.
Cost: 295.00 per student. Sewing machines and all supplies are included.
PLEASE DOWNLOAD WAIVER AND SCHEDULE AFTER YOU REGISTER. Fill the waiver out, scan and email to makesewing@gmail before class begins or bring them to class on the first day.
About Mrs. G.: My name is Jona Giammalva and I homeschooled my 5 kids (3 girls and 2 boys) for 18+ years. I have been sewing since Jr. High (when they still had Home Ec. classes!) and have written a sewing blog for 15 years. I am a sewing pattern designer and the author of the book The Essential A-Line: Make 17 Flirty Skirts from 1 Basic Pattern published by Stash Publishing.
I opened Make Sewing Studio in the Spring of 2017 in my home studio. My goal is to teach and equip students so they have the skills to create their own projects and sew and mend their own clothes. From there I want to help build the students’ skillset so they have the knowledge and technique for creating professional finishes and even open a small business. In my classes your student will learn a lot while having a lot of fun (I’m a task master but we still have fun together while working hard). Please feel free to ask me any questions!
You can see more of our projects and announcement on my facebook page (just search Make Sewing on facebook). Feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
