Kids Quilting (Fall 2026)
For students who have successfully completed at least one Beginner Sewing Semester and can sew accurate, consistent straight seams on a sewing machine.
This is not a beginner sewing class. Students should already be comfortable using a sewing machine independently. If a student is still developing consistent seam accuracy, we recommend completing another semester of sewing before enrolling.
Semester Dates: Begins the week of August 24, 2026 and concludes the last week of November 2026.
This class combines quilting students of varying experience levels. Each student will work on a quilt and techniques that are appropriate for their individual skill level.
A minimum of 6 students is required for each class. If enrollment is too low, the class may be canceled.
What Students Will Learn
Throughout the semester, students will create a quilt from start to finish while learning traditional quilting techniques and developing precision sewing skills.
Students will learn:
- Precision patchwork piecing
- Accurate seam pressing
- Nesting seams
- Attaching quilt borders correctly
- Marking quilting lines
- Layering and preparing a quilt sandwich
- Machine quilting using a walking foot
- Creating and attaching a custom quilt label
- Binding a quilt with professional techniques
Each student will complete a quilt to take home at the end of the semester while building skills they can apply to future quilting projects.
Planned Projects
Projects vary by skill level and are selected to help each student continue developing new quilting techniques throughout the semester.
- Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced quilt project
- Custom quilt label
- Fully finished quilt with binding
Every student learns at a different pace, so while our goal is for each student to complete a quilt during the semester, project complexity will be matched to the student's experience level.
