Located in Gilbert, Arizona, this camp is designed for boys and girls ages 6 and up. This is a fun beginner camp! No sewing experience required.
Kawandi Style on Canvas – A Creative Kids Class
In this fun and colorful class, kids will explore the beautiful art of Kawandi—an improvisational style of quilting traditionally made by the Siddi people of India. We’ll start by painting our own unique canvas backgrounds, then layer on fabrics using simple stitching techniques to create a one-of-a-kind textured artwork.
Students will learn how to build their design piece by piece (they choose their own design, it doesn't need to be an owl), embracing creativity and “perfectly imperfect” stitching. As a special finishing touch, we’ll include a tiny grain of rice tucked into the design—just like in traditional Kawandi, symbolizing abundance and good fortune.
No sewing experience needed! This class is all about creativity, exploration, and having fun with fabric and color.
