Kids Sewing Semester – Fall 2026
For children ages 8 and up (students must be at least 8 years old by the first day of class).
Semester Dates: Begins the week of August 24, 2026 and concludes the last week of November 2026.
A minimum of 6 students is required for each class. If enrollment is too low, the class may be canceled.
What Students Will Learn
Perfect for students with little or no sewing experience!
During the semester, students will learn the essential skills needed to sew with confidence, including:
- Sewing machine safety and operation
- Threading and caring for a sewing machine
- Sewing straight and curved seams
- Pressing seams correctly
- Reading and cutting simple patterns
- Understanding seam allowances
- Basic sewing techniques and construction methods
- Building confidence through fun, practical projects
Students work at their own pace in a supportive environment while developing both sewing skills and creativity.
Planned Projects
Projects are subject to change based on class progress and material availability.
- Sewing machine safety & practice bookmarks
- Personalized project bag with appliqué letter
- Apron with pocket
- Zipper pouch
- Mini vertical book cover
- Reversible fabric basket
- Wrist wallet
Bonus Project (time permitting):
Every child learns at a different pace, so while we strive to complete 7–9 projects each semester, we cannot guarantee every student will finish every planned project.
Before Your First Class
Students should have basic scissor skills before enrolling. They should be comfortable:
- Holding scissors correctly
- Cutting straight lines
- Cutting around corners and curves
- Cutting simple shapes accurately
Strong scissor skills help students work more independently and enjoy greater success in class.
Class Schedule
- 1 class per week
- 10 weekly classes
- Each class is 1½ hours
One makeup class is held after the semester ends only for students who missed a class and have unfinished work. We are unable to offer additional makeup classes beyond the scheduled makeup week.
Illness Policy
If your child is feeling ill or showing any symptoms of illness, please keep them home. The included makeup class at the end of the semester allows eligible students to make up missed work while helping keep everyone healthy.
Tuition
$425 per student, per semester
Tuition includes:
- All fabric and project supplies
- Use of classroom sewing machines
- Professional instruction
- One scheduled makeup class (for eligible students)
